Not to mention that a autonomous robot soldier, nearly invulnerable with killing potential would face ALL the choices our soldiers currently face in Iraq and Afghanistan, and often fail to choose the correct solution. It would have no conscience or remorse to guide it's actions.

I have no doubt the military will put them out there to further tarnish the image of America before they are anywhere near ready. Autonomous robots would seem to be exactly the WRONG WAY to win "hearts and minds" among suspicious populations.

Although a dark comedy, the "Robocop" movies seem like the near term future.

Another thing - the military seems to want to put GUNS on these things. I like the "Robotwars" ideas - just give the robot TEETH and have it CHEW enemies to pieces as part of it's movement.
