It's great for cycling too, but camping alone in the woods alongside the road is not for the faint of heart! :o)

I remember US-2 from Spokane to Sand Point well, because there was a long flat stretch getting there after several days of riding in the mountains.

If you think that area is isolated, try the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. That is the most isolated area I have ever biked. You can ride on the highway for 15-20 minutes without seeing a car or person.
