Thousands of US army troops of Japanese heritage fought well in Italy. FDR was wrong to inter the Japanese but he was in tune to the mores of the day regarding Negro troops. It took Truman to finally integrate the military and move blacks into all roles ; this in turn led to full integration of the country. --or at least speeded this process up.
