Obama either is what we fear and see or stupid. I do not believe he is stupid. He is a man on a mission who knows his time for "change" is short - ie - before people wake up.

bearcat, the two are not mutually exclusive. When it comes to domestic policy, I absolutely agree with you. He knows he has a limited window to push stuff through before people start to wise up. He has decided to do it all now and worry about consequences later. He may have overestimated how much even a popular new president with an economic crisis and a large majority can get done. We'll see.

But on foreign policy, there he is truly stupid. He is driven by a Leftist fantasy that the world will respond positively to his charm and new tone. We have already seen how much help he got from Europe on Gitmo. We will soon see how the Arab world becomes more truculent, more demanding and less cooperative in response to his 'new tone' Cairo speech - a thing anybody familiar with the Arabs could have told him, but which he's going to have to learn the hard way. I do not know how, or if, he will respond. If he decides to scapegoat Israel he will have to deal with the Democrats in Congress, who do rely on Jewish votes.
