If you have not read Timothy Egan's works, I highly recommend "The Good Rain" a true narrative of the PNW.. He talks to real people from east to west and puts their story in such a readable form..

My father gave it to me soon after it was first published.. His other book, I read, "Breaking Blue" is also a good read about some in the corrupt and murderous Spokane police force in those times... He (my father) never trusted them as he grew up there, until the age of 14, and stayed in touch, I should say.. <g,ng>

But back to the "Proud Rain"..Mainly, Egan goes from the coast of Washington to the "proud eastern Washington communities" talking to regular people..

I especially liked his comments where he said, once you got to Yakima and east, you ran into the real climbers and adventurers .. That's what I found.. The talkers were in Seattle but the doers went to the east side.. Maybe they just fled the big city bs.. I don't know..

Here is Timothy Egn's site and blog..

Anyway this is just how I feel..:)
