I’m not sure Obama himself is ever going to come to his senses. Remember, he has spent 48 years living in one way: propped up by the actual work of others, and without consequences. I’m not convinced he would know a consequence if he found it dead in his lunchbox.

Yes and no. Obama has been insulated from the results of the programs he has proposed or passed. That is true. He has no need to care what the results are, frankly. The Arabs will react in a counter-productive way but he can always pass the blame to Israel.

However, Obama is extremely results-oriented in one area: short-term politics. The next election. When he threw his opponents off the ballot to win his first seat, that was nothing if not results-oriented. When he reacted to the danger of Rev. Wright's sermons with The Great Race Speech then later threw him under the bus, that was results-oriented.

So he could 'come to his senses' by seeing his poll numbers dive and Congressional support evaporate. I don't see Obama holding to any policy that is costing him popularity. He is socialist by inclination but I don't think he is a conviction politician on any particular item. He thinks all his socialist policies are popular because they are where he comes from. If he gets too much resistance, he will fold.

Maybe I'm wrong. But for the moment, that's how I roll.
