I'm not convinced that short term political considerations cause *coming to one's senses.* At least not with someone like Obama.

He likes to say he's "pragmatic", though. I would call him mendacious. His pragmatism really amounts to saying one thing while doing another. Example: his stimulus bill and budget were exercises in fiscal restraint. [Yeah, right.] He's changed Bush policies on terrorism, Gitmo, etc. [In words, perhaps, but not substance.]

It's all smoke and mirrors.

I agree that he's grown up on the radical left/socialist view, which he probably regards as more middle of the road than 90 % of Americans. Whether he's an ideologue, I don't know. I am more inclined to think of him as ego-centric.

People like that don't "come to their senses." They just keep the balls in the air trying to fool people.
