can't count on a great surgeon having terrific support group.

Hospitals hire a top guy to head up their cardiac department however they may not have made the investments in emergency, or support or icu. recently the local hospital lost their top dr to another hospital ,, why because the other hospital offered him the davinci robot for surgery. so he moved over there. i expect because the davinci , less invasive surgery, drawing more clients.

imo the care after major surgery is as much if not more important than the surgery itself. You never see the surgeon again and are turned over to what ever ward your placed on. Next is coverage in the hospital. my son donated a kidney to his brother in law and he was discharged early because they didn't have enough staff to cover everyone. i assume to avoid law suits.. plus top hospital in philly he walked out, no wheelchair, no one assigned to walk him out other than me picking him up. I nursed him until he was ready to go home.
