Lincoln was a liberal. The Republican party in those days was the liberal party and Lincoln only won because the conservative's split the ticket, as I remember.

As far as my "generalizing": Look at the difference between FOX and MSNBC. Huge differnce.

FOX epitomizes the Republican party and conservatives (maybe not your brand) and MSNBC epitomizes the liberals and democrartic party.
