The objective here really doesn't involve "saving"; it is all about putting us on a glide slope for socialized medicine -- something they figure they can't do in one swift move.

Follow the money (and power), and you'll see what's on a politician's mind. There is nothing that would give them more money - and therefore power - than socializing healthcare. Before long many more of us will be lining up with political donations in hand - making sure we'll have "access" when we need it. Politocos will become ever more popular people, and we'll kiss their asses more - because they'll be in a position to deliver (or deny) more.

That's the main reason why I would not vote for government owned healthcare. I say "owned" because "socialized" is no more than a word. In reality, political bosses and their appointees will be 100% in control, just like a proprietor is in control of his business.
