Part of me is rooting for Ahmadijad today in iran. Students, womens and others supporting opponent are likely to be disappointed if reformer wins as he could easily be co-opted by ayottola in chief. With A you know what you got and he will be the focal point for continued popular unhappiness. 4 more years with A and if the world doesnt blow itself up may plant more of the seeds of the overall regimes downfall esp if ayotolla in chief dies in the interim. I am not sure reform victory today will be in reforms best interest given past attempts to liberalize and modernize. Maybe Bibi and Ahmadijad should fight it out like we imagined as kids when we talked of a Kennedy and Krushchev showdown, one on one, mano to mano without the sword of damocles hanging over the worlds head. You remember those days, i bet.
