A fiscal conservative would SUPPORT the Balanced Budget Amendment to our Constitution... support Pay-as-you-Go budgeting rules, (REGARDLESS of whichever Party was on top in Washington!!!!)... and would support damn near any other systemic change that could be implemented to get us off of this endless merry-go-round of deficits and borrowing.
MANY PEOPLE who LOUDLY TRUMPET how "fiscally conservative" they are, are both smart and cunning... it's just that they are LYING about any 'deep devotion' they profess to fiscal prudence. (Balancing budgets AIN'T what they are about. Political Posturing but never backing any effective reforms that would tie the hands of BOTH Big Spending Political Parties is their main game.)
They AIN'T 'fiscal conservatives'. Not in the real world (outside of their fantasies) anyway. :-)
We have had ever-increasing federal borrowing and deficits for *decades* --- spanning periods where EACH of the two political Parties has held sway --- and the FAKE fiscal conservatives are always the same!
They only call for balanced budgets when the OTHER GUY is in charge, never when their own blokes are running things!
It is ALWAYS the OTHER GUY'S spending programs that are 'wasteful' and 'too much', NEVER THEIR OWN SAINTED PROJECTS.
And, the one CLEAR TEST, the one factor that UNITES ALL THE FAKE FISCAL CONSERVATIVES --- whether they be from the Dem, or from the GOP --- is that INVARIABLY they will ALWAYS OPPOSE EVERY SERIOUS EFFORT at structural reform of budgeting. (Those things that, without which, there will never be balanced budgets, never be parsimony and restraint....)
No, tonto... true Fiscal Conservatives are in a DISTINCT MINORITY in the public, and in EACH of the major Political Parties....
But FAKE 'fiscal conservatives' are a majority of the public, and a majority of BOTH PARTIES. |
