They feel they are engaged in a holy war, fighting for their beliefs and their way of life, and that any tactic giving them the upper hand is allowable.

The scary thing is the number of people we see now who believe that America's democracy, society and economy must inevitably collapse ASAP without conservative rulers and policies. The age-old game of two parties and schools of thought working together to shape national outcomes is gone for them. It's grab all the power or go into a terrified panic because THE END IS NIGH.
