"You like living under an aristocracy of lawyers, don't you?"

Huh?

Try to make sense. Granted, in the Great White North, the cold chills your brain, but...

The fact of the matter is that science has gotten pretty specialized in the post WWII era. To be considered a 'scientist' you have to publish. Now, there are a huge number of papers submitted in any given time period. For good or ill, it just isn't possible to peer review every possible paper strictly on its merits. So there is selection criteria. Those criteria include your reputation, who you have mentored with and what degree you hold. In roughly that order. Your reputation is really important, which makes the claims of a global warming hoax to be especially humorous. But, I digress. The bottom line is that you will find it extremely difficult to get published without a PhD or impeccable credentials. It has zip to do with lawyers. It isn't the greatest of systems, but there are only finite resources. It works well enough.
