A high mileage vehicle isn't a "sucker bet" at ANY point. A buddy of mine in Austin has had a Prius for three+ years. He's an old biker friend of mine, but gave up bikes after a crash where he almost lost a foot.

What gets him off now is driving his Prius to get the highest milage possible. He's been clocking around 100 MPG most of the time, and his gas savings have already paid for his Prius.
