re: "Yeah, I know, that spirit of cooperation and mutual-benefit-seeking business model is a fantasy."

It's less difficult to understand this when transectorality, i.e., initiatives among and between different disciplines striving for Gestalt, or put another way, where dual-purposed projects between different industrial sectors are being contemplated, such as those potentially enabled by the conduit bill now before congress. See: #msg-25717643

But here we're discussing same-industry-different-silo dynamics, which often is a matter of clinically-definable abnormal behavior that I'm sure we don't have the time or expertise to fully address here. Perhaps this is the perfect segue for behaviorist Sara Wedeman to finally grace us with a dose of sage on the subject ;) , rather than whether it's safe enough to lay a fiber conduit next to a high-pressure gas line or roadway, or bridge superstructure, of whether the dependencies shown in a critical path analysis permits it.

Later this week I'd like to post a critique of another infrastructure article I read in Cabling Infrastructure & Maintenance Magazine (I'm waiting for the Web version to appear), which laments how the cabling segment of ICT should be rated as qualified for monies under LEED and the stimulus plan, but are not, and why in the author's opinion they should be. In this case the silo mindset of the sector is its own worst enemy, because they can't see the trees for the shrubs. Stay tuned.
