Burt,

I'm the same way, the car has 150K on it right now and I'm shooting for 200K. Every extra mile makes cost of ownership cheaper. Same with a PC, do I really need 3-D graphics to get my work done or is it just another feature that really doesn't add value ? I don't plan on buying more software since I have more features than I'll ever need. I think the consumer has been sold a bill of goods as far as all this neat computer technology goes. The internet is just turning into yet another way to sell me something or charge me for a service. I see a lot of home computers that simply aren't being used, or certainly not used to the full capability. Most people aren't gearheads like us. They view the computer as an appliance they use until it breaks and can't be fixed. That may take years the way PC's last, and any PC sold recently is upgradable for quite some time. As an example, one of my retired co-workers recently replaced his home PC ( it was an XT !) he got the latest IBM Aptiva (nice machine by the way) and basically found that it was a pain in the butt relearning all the software. He uses the CD-Rom for looking at Pornographic CD's he picks up at the computer fair and thats about it. He'll be using that Aptiva for a long time I think. It's going to be a tough sell in the future, do I spend $3K on a new home system that just gives me pretty graphics faster or do I use that money for other things ? Do I "want" a new PC or do I "Need" a new PC ?

Regards, Maurice
