FAST FOOD AND WEIGHT GAIN: A new report shows there may *not* be a connection between kids living near fast food restaurants and weight gain. The Indiana University study also found children don't lose weight when they live near supermarkets where fruits and vegetables are sold. Researchers say the best way for kids to fight obesity is to exercise and those that live near fitness areas like parks could lower their weight by three to 6 pounds.
CARROTS ANTI-CANCER: Don't peel those carrots before you cook them. A new study finds that the anti-cancer properties of carrots are enhanced by 25 percent if they are cooked whole rather than chopped. The researchers say that by cooking them whole and chopping them up afterwards, you are locking in both taste and nutrients. |
