There are many places on Earth where a water front doesn't necessarily mean mosquitos. The inland lakes and even the coasts of Southern Italy are notorious, however. Value still is pushed up by tourists, however, who don't know.
Camping sites, for instance, thus pay premium prices for such land in spite of the pest, since tourists don't have a clue. Same goes for the Germans :)
