I'm continuing to work with Windows 7.

I wanted to know if 64-bit Windows 7 Virtual PC would enable me to run sixteen bit programs seamlessly. I installed the Release Candidate and downloaded the Virtual XP.

My 16-bit programs ran. Of course, when starting them for the first time, there's a pause while the XP subsystem loads, but subsequent tries ran immediately.

One challenge was that the 16-bit programs wanted to run on data located on the Virtual Hard Drive. I wanted the programs running in the Virtual XP to operate on data stored on my disks under Windows 7 control. Virtual XP sees these drives as belonging to another machine; hence, network accessible.

The Windows 7 shortcuts to Virtual XP programs may hold the key.

I have my answer. Virtual PC running an XP system WILL enable 16 bit programs to run on a 64 bit Windows 7 system.

Cheers, PW.
