Given how many resources this country is using just to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no chance that the US could win a conventional war against China.

The people who think we still have a great military have been living in fantasyland since Shrub declared "mission accomplished" on the aircraft carrier. Our military is pretty good but in a war against an intelligent and creative foe many of the technological advantages are nullified. Our military leaders typically assume that the enemy is dumb enough to fight on our terms. Just think what would be happening if Iranians and the Afghans actually had some technology and manufacturing capability of their own, or if the country's forces could effectively counterstrike when attacked. Iran's ability to strike the US fleet at Bahrain is a good example.
