JFShepard, > And you're saying they were making cars the pubic wanted and that's why they went bankrupt?????

GM was the biggest automaker in the world until they fell behind Toyota in January of 2008.

Ford is well behind GM in terms of volumes. Not only that, but the quality of Ford cars are similar to that of GM. Yet Ford doesn't need a bailout.

The problem is that GM's cost structure means that GM would have to sell each car with a price premium of $2,000 just to break even. But of course the quality of GM cars isn't measuring up.

Saying that GM isn't making cars the public wanted ignores that problem and pretends that all GM has to do is listen to the environmentalists who believe the Toyota Prius actually makes money.
