>>> Yeah, like in Germany. Wait, they don't ration it there.

In the US, where it is generally recognized that we do not have enough general practice physicians, we actually have 150% of the number Germany has per-capita.

Call it a "shortage", call it "rationing", whatever. when you have 2/3 the number of physicians per capita, you DO NOT have the quality of health care we have here. Period.

Which may account for hospital stays that average almost TWICE the length of those in the US. And frankly, it is acknowledged in Germany that costs are out of control there just like they are here. Yes, we spend more of our GDP on health care, but we do a hell of a lot more with the money.

I would also add that Germany has no "public option" in the sense that Obama wants. 15% of ALL gross wages go to pay for health care, and they have STILL had to go to copays for both FFS visits AND prescription drugs.

Germany is NOT an example we want to follow.

I don't know much about Japan's health care financing system, but I do know that they turn away thousands of patients from their hospitals every year who need care. We don't do that.

Nobody is saying our system is perfect. Only that it is the best in existence. There are improvements that can be made -- like covering the 10-15 Million who have means of getting ongoing health care. That would be a great improvement, but even without it our system is clearly the best in the world.
