Well, Janet, I had an interesting conversation with James Clouser
of Sterigenics. He answered more questions that I had emailed. I felt it was gracious of him to call me on the telephone in response to
email questions.

1) He does see the possiblity of irradiation of red meat in
the near future by the FDA. Perhaps this year.

2) The so called Ozone treatment by Cyclopss (sp) would not
be effective on hamburger as it is a surface treatment. He
had not heard of the wave of enthusiasm from the OZON board.
Irradiation of hamburger is the most effective to kill micro
organisms.

3) Irradiation does not alter the taste or texture of food. The
astronauts always eat irradiated food. Educating the public
is important. Remember microwaves, and cell phones.

4) They are regulated by the FA, and the Nuclear Reg Comm. This
is sometimes done on the state level.

5) He explained the physical process of how irradiation works. This
had seemed like a huge undertaking to me, he made it sound simpler
than I had expected.

I found him to be open, informed , and intelligent with a sense
of humor. I am glad he is the CEO. JK
