Norman Matton Thomas was a leading American socialist, pacifist and six-time
presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He said, in a
1944 epoch speech, "The American people will never knowingly adopt
socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism," they will adopt every
fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist
nation without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer
need to run as a presidential candidate for the Socialist Party. The
Democratic Party has adopted our platform." How was this possible? Maybe
this is how it happens. Hegel's dialectic to force socialism on America.
There are three parts to this: 1) Create a crisis, or use one if available,
2) magnify the crisis all out of proportion by saying if the programs are
not implemented immediately, it will be catastrophic for the country and 3)
once the citizens are frightened into acceptance, implement your socialist
programs as quickly as possible.
