Obviously, you don't. That wasn't what I said, was it?

You discount the fact that we put the Shah's father in power and invalidated a democratic election because of our oil interests in Iran. You seem to feel that no one remembers that, despite the fact that it has been taught there since the revolution. Iran has been invaded many times in its history. And they remember every time. So, they are very sensitive to outsiders meddling in their country. That becomes part of the lore.

I will grant you that the urban dwellers driving this thing don't care very much about seating the Shah's father. But the rest of Iran does. Why do you think the meme of the US being the Great Satan has gotten so much play there? It is because the US, and the US alone, was responsible for the reign of the Shah. Granted, he was trying to make his country a better place. But they didn't think so. Hence the revolution.
