Lots of people are hacking and coughing already in NZ from regular respiratory infections, so reassortment with H1N1 is likely to result in an infection with reduced impact and H1N1 is up against a population already battling respiratory infections with [I suppose] enhanced immunity as a result of those recent battles [admittedly I have no idea how the immune system works in that regard].

The H1N1 infection rate is accelerating from a very low level. There is time this winter for it to get going, but it will have to hurry.
