zbig is wrong... obama finally said something after he saw the criticism, BUT what he said was not from the heart, it was from the mouth only after he saw the criticism... and his message was, don't hit the protesters, in so many words... what American President in history would be so whimpy? Does he really think he can sweet talk a government regime that beats its own people? obama is living in la la land...

GZ...your being intentionally simplistic. Obama (and most foreign affairs specialists) have spoken openly about the danger of letting the regime in Iran use America as a scapegoat. The regime is already laying into the British, claiming interference, trying to justify their reaction by the danger of outside provocation.

Bluster on the outside is not always such a good thing. Remember back in 1991 when President GHW Bush gave verbal assurances to the swamp arabs that if they rose up against Saddam we would support them. They did, we didn't....and they got slaughtered.

Fine for all of us to beat our chests and rail against the regime, but the President, any president, needs to strike a better tone. If things continue to deteriorate or go another direction, he can modify his comments accordingly.

And what exactly would his harsh words accomplish that hasn't already been happening in Iran? Further revolt? More people in the street?
