I avoided E-Trade because I've heard the service is bad and I am willing to pay a little more to get rapid service. That is why I trade with Schwab. Unfortunately Schwab was just as bad yesterday and today. My theory that by paying higher commissions you get a company that is willing to invest more in infrastructure just doesn't hold true. I suspect there will be a lot of churning of brokers as electronic-oriented customers search for someone who is willing to pay the extra dollars to put a reasonable infrastructure in place. The sad thing is that the infrastructure just doesn't cost that much anymore, yet still these brokers think it is smart to pinch their pennies.
