Great movie, but it was a movie. Not fact. The book "Charlie Wilson's War" was written by George Crile, an extremist liberal who could not stand Reagan.

But the facts are that Reagan had authorized the CIA to provide Stingers to the mujahedeen in Apr. 1985 -- and order that was later blocked by McMahon, who later was fired over it. And it wasn't just Reagan -- almost every conservative was insisting that CIA arm the mujahedeen.

Not taking away any credit from Wilson -- he was totally supportive of Reagan's efforts from the outset. But the book intentionally avoided that connection, presumably because of the author's liberal bias. Charlie Wilson had the greatest respect for Reagan.

If you spent half time reading legitimate material you spend watching Hollywood movies, you might have had some idea about this.
