Kirkland Lake Gold Inc.: Drill Hole 53-1279 Returns 23.75 Ounces of Gold Per Ton Over 14.0 Feet; Other Exploration Results

KIRKLAND LAKE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 23, 2009) - Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (the Company) (TSX:KGI - News; AIM:KGI) is pleased to announce an update on exploration drilling testing part of the South Mine Complex (SMC). The SMC consists of 15 or more mineralized zones, some of which are actively being explored and developed while others are now in production.

Recent drilling from one of many exploration programs currently in progress, designed to test inferred resource areas and expand the New South Zone between the -5600 and -5300 foot levels, has returned high grade gold mineralization.

"Approximately 80% of the drill holes completed during this program intersected high grade mineralization within previously defined inferred resource areas as well as untested areas," said Stewart Carmichael, Chief Exploration Geologist. He added, "Drill holes 50-1065AW and 50-1065AW1 have extended the strike length of the New South Zone an additional 130 feet east and have intersected new high grade mineralization footwall to the New South Zone."

The highlights of this recent drilling include:

- Drill hole 53-1279 assayed 23.75 ounces of gold per ton (opt) uncut (3.60 opt cut) over a true width of 14.0 feet on the New South Zone, and included:

-- 15.89 opt (uncut) over a true width of 0.9 feet,

-- 17.96 opt (uncut) over a true width of 1.8 feet,

-- 27.93 opt (uncut) over a true width of 0.9 feet, and

-- 192.50 opt (uncut) over a true width of 1.3 feet.
