Allegany chamber questions natural gas prospects examiner.com Jun 23, 2009 9:28 AM (1 hr ago) AP FROSTBURG, Md. The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce is questioning the environmental ramifications of natural gas production in western Maryland. The business group has invited industry representatives and state environmental regulators to a meeting Tuesday in Frostburg to discuss the potential harvesting of gas from a vast geological structure called the Marcellus Shale. Chamber President Kolin Jan (koh'-lin jan) cites a government report that millions of gallons of water must be used to cut the shale and release the gas.
