Most patients are not in the medicare hmos, which have a demonstrably higher cost than straight medicare. The medicare drug plan is an example and is a horrible waste as it is administered by all those private carriers who take their cut. Leaving a relatively small percentage to the providers. Having private insurers administer medicare is the ultimate in corporate welfare and should be stopped
