That's not really true. 99% of the educated people I know say we have to do something to get off the oil. Some are concerned about the environment and most are concerned with oil's bad influence on our foreign policy and the position of weakness it puts us in. Either way, these people come from across the political spectrum and none that I know of want a move to socialism Venezuela style. However, many people believe that balance is necessary and that we went too far towards laissez faire capitalism during the Bush years. So Obama is enacting a correction back to the center, although he is admittedly left of center.
