I've noticed a few comments from people choosing between 32 and 63 bit versions of Windows 7.

It's obvious that 64 bit is the future. For me, the big question is how far away is that future. Will my current hardware outlast 32 bit's usefulness? That's a tough question.

For now, I cannot detect any improvement or deterioration in performance or stability between the 32 bit or 64 bit Release Candidates I'm testing. (I'm using eyeballs and fingers, not automated nano-timers.) What really impacts me is the 64 bit system refusing to run 16 bit software.

What hangs in the balance is compatibility: today's needs verses tomorrow's. If I order a copy of Windows 7, it'll be 32 bit. Today's OS for today's hardware and today's software.

I'll put off getting tomorrow's OS until tomorrow.

Cheers, PW.
