Again.

In certain controlled and very artificial tests, we have done that. But that has only been done with land based systems with a known target.

Links? Oh, yeah, you don't do that. We cannot shoot down missiles moving at ICBM velocities with unknown targets. At least we have never done it. AEGIS is an red herring, it has been only shown to work on relatively low velocity targets.

Gates is a politician. While I trust him more than you, he makes promises he cannot fulfill. Like the parking at TAMU. It still is a hunting expedition. I will grant you that he is pretty competent, but there are some problems that are inherently intractable. And the problem set he is facing is less of a challenge than when he headed TAMU. But, still...
