EAST ST. LOUIS > MAKER OF COLD REMEDY IS SUED A Madison County couple have sued the makers of the cold remedy Zicam, claiming that parent company Matrixx Initiatives continued selling Zicam after consumers complained that it robbed them of their sense of smell. Floyd and Jean Fessler filed the suit against Zicam, Matrixx Initiatives and others Thursday in federal court in East St. Louis, saying that the company never investigated or studied those complaints. The suit seeks millions in damages and class action status from the courts.Write a letter to the editors | Subscribe to a newsletter | Subscribe to the newspaper

This company, Matrixx, has no future. This may be the first class action filed, but expect other lawyers to pile on, both on behalf of injured consumers and irate investors (the stock plummeted from 20 to 5 on the recent negative news). The domain (web address) MatrixxClassAction.com has already been registered (and is for sale); it currently provides links to experienced class action lawyers who offer free, no-obligation reviews of individual Matrixx claims. It's likely to be just one of many vehicles lawyers will use to educate consumers and investors, and attract plaintiffs.
