"Do they get paid for when the legislature is in session and do they have other jobs?" Most of them are the ner-do-well sons of local Texas (R) auto dealers. I used to watch them in the gallery in the capitol there, just to beat the heat and catch the comedy. I just lived a few blocks away. As a young drug smuggler/dealer, I had a lot of free time to kill. They are HILARIOUS, (D)'s and (R)'s. A (D) in Texas is an (R) anywhere else, and the (R)'s are practically Neanderthals. It's what clued me in that the best and the brightest in our country weren't choosing to go into government. W is the highest achiever of their ilk.
