I donno... I'll have to disagree with that one.

At least for the next 50 or maybe a hundred years or so I'll bet that natural gas would be a cheaper transportation fuel source then hydrogen would be.

(It takes a significant amount of energy to hydrolyze water to cleave off the hydrogen atoms... and --- until and unless we have fusion or possibly fourth generation fission nuclear power sources, or other electrical power production of similar cheapness, and until/unless we have depleted a lot more of the massive North American natural gas resources that we have in-place now --- I expect that nat. gas will still prove to be the cheaper alternative for a long while yet.)

Also, in well-tuned engines, I would not expect very much carbon monoxide to be coming out --- certainly nothing on the order of what today's generation of diesel or gasoline engines can produce....
