It is a serious question. If man made global warming is indeed happening, no amount of effort or expense is wasted in changing our behaviour. If on the other hand it's not a man made phenom, then we will expend a lot of resources for no gain. So the motivations of the two sides are important, and they certainly are fixed in cement. I don't think any evidence would convince the GW deniers or the GW alarmists.

My big deal is our dependence on imported oil. I'll go out on a limb and make a prediction; in the next year or two there is going to be a geopolitical or natural occurrence that dramatically cuts the supply of oil. The prices will go through the ceiling and there will be actual shortages... people and goods and services will stop moving. It will kill the economy.

So GW alarmist or denier, our first effort should be to get off oil for transportation. That would have an immediate effect on CO2 and buy time for more GW research. If man made GW turns out to be a real problem, we can then address things like coal fired power plants.
