Electric vehicles are more efficient in terms of energy than using electricity generated from natural gas and coal to refine a barrel of oil to propel our cars with gas. Instead, let's use electricity to propel our cars and cut out all the other work. That's a productivity improvement and would allow us to either keep the barrel of oil in the ground or to sell it for a profit to our economy.

Again, the technology is improving all the time. The technology and scale will improve enough over the next 15 years to provide electric cars that go as far as ICE cars and that are cost competitive. It will have all sorts of benefits for our foreign policy as well.
