JFShepard, I still remember learning about SS back in high school. I was told it was a government-sponsored retirement program, where the government takes a part of your paycheck and returns it to you when you retire.

Later on I found out the truth about SS, that it's actually a Ponzi scheme by design. The vast majority of Americans don't know that, and that suits liberals just fine.

Maybe if we taught our kids the truth about SS the same way we teach them the "truth" about Christopher Columbus, slavery, and other sins of the white man, we'll have a more informed American society.
