Federal CTO Agenda: Private-Sector Partnerships

10 Questions For Federal CTO Aneesh Chopra

J. Nicholas Hoover | InformationWeek | June 16, 2009

Chopra talks about the role of technology in government policy, and advancing Obama's healthcare IT, smart grid, education technology, and economic development agendas.

[FAC: Yes, broadband is mentioned in this discussion too, but only once; cybersecurity & education, twice each; smart/energy grid, thrice; healthcare, five times. And so it goes. It would be refreshing for a change if the federal government would start using generic terminology, such as
"connectivity" instead of perpetuating the marketectural notions that prop up the image of the already highly-productized versions of "broadband" exclusively. Identifying connectivity as broadband only serves to further the agendas in the majors. The influence of market power, I suppose, is behind this, albeit in a very subtle and seemingly benign way, and it is also because governments are simply not accustomed to thinking about matters such as this.]
