Does religiosity cause people to be less moral, or does rampant immorality cause people to be more religious?

FYI, its the latter. People who see around them the results of immorality, better see the value of religious faith and the virtues it fosters.

The question is why isn't there a split between two communities in liberal areas? Perhaps, its because the devil already has the mass of souls there and there's no struggle to hold them. But in places like inner city ghettos and poor Appalachian counties, the devil and God are fighting for souls. In those places, there's a big difference between the Saturday night people and the Sunday morning people even though they're two communities living side by side one another. In places like San Francisco, they're all the devils property.
