The government sells billions of dollars in bonds to the SSA and you think the bonds are buried in a hole somewhere by the SSA and the cash the government received is put in a "lock box"?? lol! The problem, of course, is that the billions of dollars in debt SSA bought is a fraction of what would be required to support the required benefit payouts. I have no problem with investing in US debt; my problem is that the money has NOT been invested. It has been spent on paying retirement benefits in excess of the amounts that are actuarily sustainable.
