When I moved to CA, the first thing I noticed was that my local school district had what seemed to me to be antique buses. Which makes sense, since property taxes pay for the local schools. My district had been making the nut by cutting back on buses, among other things, like schools - the schools were antique too, featuring a lot of portable buildings instead of new schools.
