Well, I am going to surprise you on health care. I am now paying my own as a retiree with some post employment subsidy. It is clear to me that someone without substantial means is screwed on this issue. (I also now believe since I have to pay for it out of after tax money that others should as well.) All the reasons for the screwing is a subject for another discussion. I do not know the answers - except that something radical needs to be done and it MUST be honestly priced and honestly paid for.

As for the causes of the economic downfall. Basically Bush tried to be too nice. He wanted to avoid the evil mean Republican tag and allowed crap to go on to make mortgages available to anyone - regardless of their ability to afford it. Further, when Barney Frank played the race card on Fannie and Freddie he rolled over. To ignore the idiocy and basic evil of Barney Frank in this debate is simply dishonest.

No politician or party has the guts for the strong medicine the nation needs. The inevitable has been delayed by debt and more debt. Obama is following this by multiplying bad Bush debt with monster Obama debt.

The prior bubble can not be simply reinflated with more debt. The excesses need to be purged. The purging of the excesses can either be done humanely under control or through a radical bond market economic event. Obama is on his way to a radical bond market economic event.

This board rants and raves about the social issues espoused by the Republicans. I see those issues lost and whatever judgement on the immoral can be left to the hereafter. What is not yet lost is the economic success of America. It is now in serious jeopardy. The current policies are NUTS. I have not yet decided if Obama will someday confront Nancy or if Nancy is simply doing his dirty work for him.

The current fiscal policies of this administration are NUTS - and on the verge of getting nuttier.

When Bush ran up big debts the outcry was huge. When Obama runs up multiples of Bush debt - where is the outrage?

Bearcat;

Hey how about we talk about today's jobs report and discuss if the Obama stimulus plan is properly structured.

Fair enough. If you will be honest about the cause of the economic downfall - I'll be as honest talking about Obama stimulus plan. The stimulus plan had waaaay too much money going to social programs (unemployment and such) and waaay too much going to tax relief in my mind. Better to have increased the amount going to those shovel ready jobs - put Americans to work and getting something in return for those of us who pay the taxes. Obama team also must get what money they have allocated out into the jobs they promised. As I said before I haven't seen one nickle go to real stimulus jobs here. So I agree with you that it is now time for Obama team to perform. Don't waste this opportunity Obama!

I also think it is time to shelve health care. Hey they can do it in a way as to blame republicans. I think it both their faults that it is struggling - but ALL effort needs to go into the economy as far as I'm concerned. If they fail at the economy all their other efforts will go down to failure.
