Taxing the most efficient liquid fuel (diesel) highest and not taxing and even subsidizing the least efficient liquid fuel (ethanol) is a great example of how well selective taxes work.

By the same token we should tax ICE autos and subsidize electric autos... because an electric engine is much more efficient than an ICE engine.

You know, and I know, that we are at, near or past peak oil. This isn't a joke, or a political football. Every day the average cost of getting a barrel of oil out of the ground goes up, every day it becomes more difficult. Every day we are exporting our dollars to petrol dictatorships and making them stronger. Our wealth is decreasing, their wealth and influence are increasing. And every day we use 390 MILLION gallons of gasoline.

So you can pull your hair out and scream "SOCIALIST!!!!" with all your ideological might but someone has to move this thing in another direction or you and I are going off a cliff in a gas guzzling SUV at 120 MPH.
