Mark, you can buy a fairly fully configured 486DX2-66 machine for about $500 today - no need for any great new invention. There are even several models of Pentium(r) Processor 75MHz systems available for WELL BELOW $1K today.

The fact is - sub $1K systems really don't sell all that well. That's the will of the consumer. The majority of buyers go into the store with $1800 to $2500 dollars and buy the best machine they can.

I think your 'cost as a limit to penetration' is a bit mis-directed/over-weighted. Remember that the PC is not a mature product, most of the world is still trying to get their hands on their first roll of toilet paper - never mind their first PC. I'm not being flip about this, its quite true - there is a huge untapped market for technology out there but it takes time and effort to develop it.

Lastly, spend more time understanding the issues in China.
