The question remains what is the benefit of "saving" something you never intend to use? "what do we do then" Use other resources that require a higher price to tap (maybe shale oil, oil sands, methyl hydrates, etc), balance higher prices against alternatives and conservation measures. Like when we "used up" whale oil ... we found something else.
